Arctaris Impact Investors, LLC, a national impact investment firm with a 15-year track record in underserved communities, announced late last month an equity investment in a $27 million opportunity zone hotel-to-residential conversion opportunity in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Source of the Spring reports that it will be the former Hotel Silver Spring, located at 8727 Colesville Rd., that closed in May.

Montgomery County’s own Sydney Mednik has been recognized with the prestigious Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award by ESPN. Sydney hails from Potomac, Maryland, and is set to begin her junior year at Winston Churchill High School this fall. A competitive soccer player, she has been a vital part of the Churchill Varsity Soccer Team since her freshman year and actively participates in club soccer.

Time Magazine has honored Montgomery County native Kahlil Greene by naming him one of the “100 Most Important People on the Internet.” Greene took to his social media account to share this exciting news and also announced his upcoming book titled “Hidden History.” In his post, he expressed gratitude, saying, “I can’t be more grateful for these blessings and to all of you who made it possible. John Lyon, a cherished radio personality known for his vibrant career in the Washington D.C. area and for enduring the profound personal tragedy of his daughters, Sheila and Katherine, going missing from the Wheaton area in Montgomery County, MD has passed away at the age of 85.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a Saturday night armed robbery in the 13800 block of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring in which three adults were stabbed. All victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspects fled the scene.

San Pancho was brought to life by husband-and-wife team Carolina McCandless and David Perez. Since opening in July 2024, the restaurant has garnered acclaim as one of the “Hottest New Brunches” and “Hottest New Restaurants.” Recently, the restaurant was also highlighted for its unique coffee drinks that have drawn lines out the door at 7056 Carroll Ave in Takoma Park, MD, and now it’s celebrating its one-year anniversary by thanking customers and asking where it should open the next San Pancho.
