Gaithersburg

Though it remained open until 2002, The Corner Kick at 18707 N. Frederick Rd in Gaithersburg was the premier sporting facility in Montgomery County from 1984 to 2000. 2000 marked the opening of the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown and the Rockville SportsPlex in Rockville, signaling a shift in the local sports landscape.


Bethesda

The Montgomery County Executive will hold six Community Conversations on long-term priorities and the Fiscal Year 2027 Capital Improvements Program budget, with the first meeting on Monday, March 31, at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center. (more…)

Beyond MoCo

Route 50, stretching from West Sacramento to Maryland’s Ocean City, carries more than just travelers– it carries a unique piece of highway history. Sometime between the late 1970s to early 1980s, Ocean City officials installed a sign marking the eastern termination of US 50, proudly displaying the distance to Sacramento (3,073 miles) as a nod to the highway’s distant beginning on the West Coast.

Connie Britton, born Constance Elaine Womack in Boston, Massachusetts, moved to Rockville, Maryland, as a baby and spent her first seven years there, living near Norbeck Road and Bel Pre Road. Currently, she is co-starring in the number one movie on Netflix, The Life List.

MoCo History

Montgomery County, located in the state of Maryland, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1776. The idea to create this county emerged from Thomas S. Wootton, who proposed dividing Frederick County into three smaller counties: Frederick, Montgomery, and Washington. In 1798, a significant legislative act was passed that established five election districts within Montgomery County: Berry, Clarksburg, Cracklin, Medley, and Rockville.
