The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 7pm this evening for portions of Northern Virginia, Central Maryland (including all of Montgomery County), and Washington DC.
After more than 90 years of service in Ocean City, MD, Alaska Stand on 9th Street announced last month that it will be closing its doors. In a message to the community, the owners expressed their gratitude for the cherished memories created at the 9th Street Boardwalk location and confirmed that Thrasher’s Fries will take over the space. Fans of Alaska Stand have shared their memories, which can be found below.

Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section have arrested 32-year-old Louis Jeffery Hanley of Olney, MD. He faces charges of first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, and reckless endangerment stemming from an incident that took place last December in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown neighborhood.

Last April we let you know that local restaurant group Moby Dick House of Kabob signed on to open a new restaurant in Potomac’s Cabin John Village (11325 Seven locks Road Suite 180, Potomac MD 20854). The new location is adjacent to Colony Grill on the back side of the shopping center and officially opens on Wednesday, March 26th.

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a news release stating that it welcomed Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) response to a complaint regarding the alleged mistreatment of an 8-year-old Muslim student at Cabin Branch Elementary School in Clarksburg, which included removing the teacher from the classroom. Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Officers Weber and Chen (District 2– Bethesda) were honored with a First Responder award for their significant role in aiding an unsheltered individual suffering from a severe infection.
Montgomery County’s 2025 rent stabilization rent increase allowance will be 5.7%, effective July 1, which is lower than the 2024 allowance of 6%. The Rent Stabilization law, which applies to most rental units built in 2002 or earlier, adjusts rent increases annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) and also regulates certain fees, with the 2025 Voluntary Rent Guideline set at 3.3%.
Waymo has announced that its fully autonomous ride-hailing service (a driverless taxi), Waymo One, will be available to riders in Washington, D.C. starting in 2026. A video of the experience can be seen below.
