Authorities are investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant in the 7300 block of Summit Ave of Chevy Chase, initially reported as a drowning, with the mother taken into custody and an autopsy pending to determine the cause and manner of death.

Rockville’s Lunar New Year celebration will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Rockville High School, and will feature multicultural performances, interactive displays, crafts, and free snacks, marking the Year of the Snake. The 2024 celebration was canceled due to inclement weather. (more…)


MoCo History

A memorial honoring Tuskegee Airman and WWII veteran Brigadier General Charles E. McGee was unveiled at the Silver Spring library named in his honor, commemorating his legacy days before what would have been his 104th birthday. The event was attended by County Executive Marc Elrich, Councilmembers, state and federal officials, members of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, representatives from the Tuskegee Airmen Eastern Region, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Montgomery County Commission on Veteran Affairs.

The acquisition will retain more than 500 jobs and marks Samsung Biologics’ first U.S.-based manufacturing site, further cementing Montgomery County’s position as a premier destination for life sciences companies of all sizes. “During our international trade mission last year, we met with the Samsung Biologics team in Seoul to discuss the economic momentum in Maryland. Today’s ribbon cutting is the realization of that meeting and our state’s momentum,” said Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “South Korea’s largest biotech company is opening its first U.S. manufacturing facility here in Maryland. In the state of Maryland, we are delivering for our people and not playing for second.”

Last October, biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, headquartered in Gaithersburg since 2013, announced that it will build another state-of-the art facility, also in Gaithersburg. This new facility, which follows the opening of the company’s $300 million cell therapy manufacturing facility opened in Rockville last spring, will create 100 new jobs and continue to expand the company’s R&D footprint in the County. Restaurants

Back in May we let you know that Dirty Dough is coming to 36B Maryland Ave in Rockville Town Square. The cookie shop will be taking over the location that was the longtime home of Berry Cup, which closed in the summer of 2022. Dirty Dough made an appearance as a vendor at Rockville Town Square’s tree lighting event and let us know at they are aiming for a Wednesday, December 18th opening.

Brown’s Consumer Protection Division, paid over $1.4 million to buyers of new homes over the past five years to address losses caused by registered home builders, including incomplete construction and failure to meet standards. While the 2025 opening timeframe has been in the plans for Wegmans upcoming Rockville location, including signage at the upcoming location, the grocery store officially announced that Rockville will be one of three new Wegmans stores opening in 2025 and May have given a clue as to when in 2025 we can expect it.

Taylor Momsen is widely recognized for her roles as Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl, but did you know she grew up in Potomac?
