Per the Maryland State Police: An injured hunter stranded near Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge was rescued Friday by a Maryland State Police Aviation Command (MSPAC) helicopter. The crew from Trooper 6, assigned to the Easton Section, responded to the area of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge shortly after noon on Friday. They were summoned to conduct the aerial rescue after Dorchester County emergency responders were called for a man that fell from a tree stand.

According to ground personnel, the man fell approximately 14 feet from a tree stand and required medical attention. The Dorchester County Department of Emergency Services (DES) contacted SYSCOM and requested the Maryland State Police Aviation Command conduct the rescue due to the severity of the injuries and the remote location and marshy terrain.

Tacos Don Perez to Open a Kensington Location

Tacos Don Perez will be taking over the location that was home to K-Town Bistro at 3784 Howard Ave in Kensington for the last 12 years. Tacos Don Perez took over in early November and plan to open to the public late Spring 2023 (possibly sooner) with a taqueria quick-service concept. Photos of the food available below.

Tacos Don Perez started off as a small, family-run catering business back in 2017. It continued that way until may 2020, when it became a once-a-week home-based pop-up when the family was left without work due to Covid-19. The pop-up quickly gained support from the local community, as Tacos Don Perez sold out in a matter of hours every single week. With the support of their customers, the family was able to buy and custom build their own food truck, which is located in the Glenmont shopping center (12321 Georgia Ave). In March 2022 the family opened what they’ve referred to as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County” in the same Glenmont location.

Damascus Defeats Oakdale to Win 3A Maryland Football State Championship

Damascus defeated Oakdale 21-14 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Saturday night to win the school’s 12th State Championship, tying Seneca Valley for the Maryland state record. Damascus has appeared in 17 State Championship games.

The Swarmin’ Hornets jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the half before taking a 21-0 lead in the third quarter on a Dunathan touchdown run. Oakdale came back down the field to score a touchdown and make it 21-7 going into the 4th quarter. After a few stops for each team, Oakdale scores a touchdown with just under 4 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 21-14. The onside kick attempt was not successful and Damascus was able to get two first downs to run out the clock and win the game.

WJLA (ABC7) Releases 2022-2023 Winter Weather Outlook

WJLA (ABC7) has released its winter outlook for the upcoming 2022-2024 season. Previously, we’ve reviewed Doug Kammerer and NBC4’s winter outlook, shared highlights from Mike Thomas and Fox 5’s winter weather outlook, and went over WUSA9’s snowy prediction. WJLA seems to be a bit of a mixture of all of them, with less than average snow predicted, but still plenty depending on where in MoCo you’re located.

Like every other outlook, WJLA discusses the La Niña weather pattern that we’ll have for the third winter in a row. They tend to produces below-normal snowfall and above-average temperatures. The La Niña is expected to peak early and weaken as winter continues, according to their outlook. WJLA cuts to the chase and writes that “D.C. and surrounding areas are trending milder than normal for the season with less snowfall and potentially fewer storms.” As you can see in the map in our featured photo, the upper fourth of MoCo is in the 13″-20″ range while the rest of MoCo is in the 9″-15″ range (Rockville’s average snowfall is 21 inches).

MCFRS-EMIHS Responds to Call For Injured Restaurant Employee at Fallsgrove Village Center

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) as well as Emergency Medical and Integrated health Services (EMIHS) responded to a call for an injury sustained by an employee of Taipei Tokyo in the Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville at approximately 6pm on Saturday evening.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a restaurant worker suffered a traumatic injury following a mishap involving the grease trap in the kitchen. The injury has been described as a “penetrating type injury.” Co-workers assisted with the medical emergency prior to the arrival of EMIHS. Upon arrival, medics continued providing care and the adult patient was transported to a local hospital with Priority 2 trauma (serious, but non-life threatening injuries). That Smoothie Place Will Begin Its Soft Opening on Friday, December 9

Back in May we let you know about ‘That Smoothie Place’ coming to Damascus, taking over the location that was formerly home to Sprint in the Damascus shopping center at 9815 Main Street, suite 106. The store has recently announced that its soft opening is set for Friday, December 9th. Full announcement and more info below:

Damascus Takes On Oakdale For the 3A Maryland Football State Championship

The Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets take on the Oakdale Bears tonight at 7pm at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis for the 3A Maryland State Championship.

The Swarmin’ Hornets defeated River Hill 42-7 in the semifinals. RB Dillon Dunathan rushed for 245 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win. Oakdale, from Frederick County, defeated St. Charles 27-22. Damascus will be appearing in their 17th State Final and will be attempting to win their 12th State championship, which would tie the state record currently held by Seneca Valley.

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Larry Hogan today addressed the first-ever Quantum World Congress at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC, discussing the importance of Maryland’s leadership in innovation and new sciences and technologies to address the economic and security challenges the nation faces.

“Maryland has created a robust and unmatched quantum ecosystem, rich with academic research partnerships, industry investment, and critical federal government engagement,” said Governor Hogan. “We are leading a quantum revolution in our state that serves not just our long-term economic benefit, but also advances our critical national security and cybersecurity goals. Suspect Identified in Foot Locker Armed Robbery

Per MCPD: On Friday, September 9, 2022, Kenneth Shawn Purvis entered a Foot Locker store in the 8600 block of Colesville Rd. asked to try on a pair of shoes and stated he wanted to purchase them. When Purvis approached the counter, he appeared to attempt to use his phone to pay with a mobile app and then took cash out of his pocket. He then grabbed a pair of scissors that were on the counter, walked behind the counter and demanded that the employee get out of his way.

The employee complied with his demands. Purvis then took the sneakers from the clerk, removed his shoes and put on the new sneakers. Upon attempting to exit the store, the store manager confronted him. Purvis then brandished the scissors and threatened her before leaving the store.
