It has been another busy year at Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg. Since last summer, the development has welcomed several new businesses, seen a handful of longtime tenants move or close, and continues to add new restaurants and retailers that are expected to open in the coming months.
Openings
- El Guero Mexicano (formerly Taco Bar El Guero) reopened earlier this year in its new home and with a new name. The longtime Gaithersburg favorite is now operating as El Güero Mexicano at 200 Ellington Boulevard. More here.
- Sixty Vines opened last fall, bringing its signature wine-on-tap concept and seasonal American fare to the area, offering a spacious, communal dining experience. More here.
- The Crepe Shoppe, which also opened last fall, relocated within Crown to 230 Crown Park Ave this past spring. The shop features sweet and savory crepes and adding a casual, dessert-friendly option to the mix. More here.
- Rowan, a piercing studio staffed by licensed nurses, also opened last fall. The studio is located between Ideal Image and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Rowan specializes in ear piercings and offers a variety of styles, including hoops, studs, charms, threaders, cuffs, and more.. More here.
Coming Soon
- Pittsburgh-based Millie’s Ice Cream is preparing to open its first Maryland location in Gaithersburg’s Downtown Crown. Millie’s will be opening at 202 Ellington Blvd., in the space most recently occupied by The Crepe Shoppe before its relocation to 230 Crown Park Ave. More here.
- Kitchen Social is nearing the finish line on its first Maryland location, with the Ohio-based restaurant now targeting a late August opening at Downtown Crown in Gaithersburg. The restaurant, located at 203 Crown Park Avenue, remains fenced off as construction wraps up, but significant progress has been made in recent weeks. More here.
- The Container Store has officially closed permanently. The store, located at 201 Ellington Boulevard, welcomed its final customers in the first part of July. Persiano Gallery is returning to take over the space, which is the same space it previously occupied before The Container Store moved in. More here.
- Hawkers Asian Street Food has signed a lease to take over the 5,228 SF space that was home to Ted’s Montana Grill. Ted’s Montana Grill closed in January after serving the Gaithersburg community for more than a decade. More here.
