Former Georgetown Hoyas basketball head coach Craig Escherick became a member of the Springbrook High School Athletic Hall of Fame last month, joining James Castonguay, Jim Dunne, Omar Evans, Thomas Higdon, Darren McLinton, Ria Peralta, Jenni Pfeiffer, and Kevin Williamson as inductees.

MCPS

MCPS today sent a message to the community regarding winter weather and the color-coded statuses that are issued when there is inclement weather. A video (available below) featuring superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor also accompanied the message and some have wondered if the video implies that decisions would be made earlier than usual for the school district.

DMV

The 2024 Festival of Lights will take place from December 5, 2024 to January 1, 2025 at the Washington DC Temple  (9900 Stoneybrook Dr in Kensington, MD). At the Festival of Lights, over 500,000 Christmas lights illuminate the temple grounds to ring in the season and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The lights will turn on each night at 4:45 PM and go off at 9:00 PM each evening.

Goodreads, the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations, has released its opening round nominees for the 2024 Goodreads Choice Awards and former Watkins Mill teacher Sara Confino’s novel  Behind Every Good Man has been nominated in the Historical Fiction category. Opening round voting runs until later this month.

North Bethesda

Back in June, MOD Pizza closed its location at 12027 Rockville Pike (Montrose Crossing). The closure came approximately three months after the Kentlands location closed and a few months after the announcement that its Downtown Silver Spring location at 909 Ellsworth Dr Suite B106 would not be reopening after closing in the summer of 2023 due plumbing issues. Now, its replacement at Montrose Crossing has signed on.

Damascus

Following the recognition of social studies resource teacher Ken Buffum’s innovative teaching methods, Topps took an exciting step to further engage the students of Damascus High School. In a heartwarming gesture, the trading card company sent several packs of sports cards to Buffum’s class, allowing the students to experience firsthand the thrill of opening packs and the excitement surrounding collectible cards.
