With Women’s History Month coming up in March, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on the Best & Worst States for Women in 2024, to highlight the areas that provide an ideal living environment for women and the places that are in need of improvement. Maryland came in ranked at #6 overall, including the best unemployment rate for women.

DMV

On Saturday we let you know that Outback Steakhouse closed its Germantown location after more than 30 years in business. The closure is part of parent company Bloomin’ Brands decision to close 41 restaurants across its portfolio that also includes nearby closures of Bonefish in Ashburn, VA and Carrabba’s in Reston, VA.

Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to the 4100 block of Garrett Park Rd. in Silver Spring for the sound of shots at approximately 5:30pm on Saturday evening. Police tell us that upon arrival officers observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed and spoke to multiple witnesses who observed a male shooting a firearm into the woods.

Chevy Chase

Playa Bowls has opened its fifth Montgomery County location at 8525 Chevy Chase Lake Terrace in  the Chevy Chase Lake development. Playa Bowls Chevy Chase is currently in its soft opening phase, open from 8am until 8pm from Sunday, February 25th until Friday, March 1st and from 10am until 8pm on Saturday, March 2.

Gaithersburg

Joseph Hooks is an emerging leader, minority small-business owner, community advocate and coach. He created the 480 Club  in 2014 to train and mentor young student-athletes from the Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village community where he grew up with a goal of doing do for 480 minutes per week. Last year, the Montgomery County Council proclaimed February 24th “Joe Hooks Day”, an honor Joe is celebrating again with friends this year.
