Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Saturday, March 25, 2023 on Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring. At approximately 1:50 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a pedestrian struck.
The investigation has revealed that an adult male pedestrian was struck by a red 2015 Lexus ES300h and a black 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that were traveling northbound on Columbia Pike, just south of Hillwood Dr. The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene after the collision. The driver of the Jeep left the scene and reported the collision hours later at a police station.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 40-year-old Zelalem Yirga Adamu, of Laurel. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
