Chevy Chase

Real estate mogul, Washington Nationals owner, and and Chevy Chase resident Ted Lerner has passed away at the age of 97. Lerner purchased the Nationals from Major League Baseball in 2006 for $450,000,000. The team released the following statement on Monday morning: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Founding Managing Principal Owner, Theodore N. Lerner. The crowning achievement of his family business was bringing baseball back to the city he loved -and with it, bringing a championship home for the first time since 1924. He cherished the franchise and what it brought to his beloved hometown.”

In order to determine the most educated states, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 18 metrics that examined the key factors of a well-educated population: educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps between genders and races.

DMV

Last week we let you know that Dan Snyder was putting his Montgomery County home up for sale, for what would be a DMV record breaking $49 million if it sold for the asking price. Now, the home listing is available to browse on any real estate website. It is being listed by listed by Heather Corey and Michael Rankin of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.

The home, located at 11900 River Rd., has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms spread across 30,000 SF. The French-style single family home sits on a lot size of just over 9.6 acres and is located in Potomac. It comes at a price of $1,633 per square foot, with an annual tax $192,631 (over $75k more than the $117,345 median household income in Montgomery County).

Bethesda

Abby Meyers is Whitman High School’s all-time leading scorer with over 1,700 points and was the Ivy League Player of the Year last year before transferring to the University of Maryland for her senior season. Yesterday she was honored at  Senior Day as #8 Maryland took on Illinois.

Meyers didn’t disappoint, scoring 14 of her 18 points in the third quarter for the Terps, helping lead the team to an 81-72 victory and improving to 13-0 all-time against Illinois. In an interview with the Diamondback last month, she credited her  junior and senior years at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda as helping her evolve as a teammate and leader, playing a big role in being named a captain ahead of her first season at Maryland.

MoCoSnow

After a couple colder days, temperatures are expected to push 60° again to start the week off on Monday. A chilly morning start will lead to temps hitting 50° by about noon and reaching the upper 50s an hour or two after that, with partly sunny skies.

A similar day is expected on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50s. The week will end with three days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) of temperatures on the mid to upper 60s, which is not common for mid-February. The three days of spring-like weather will come with variable cloudiness and a chance of rain on all three days, with Thursday being the most likely.

Poolesville

Town of Poolesville staff and consultants continue to monitor and research treatment options to remove the PFAS from drinking water wells, according to an update on the town website. This comes approximately two months after PFAS were detected in the water samples collected from wells 2 and 3 approximately two months ago. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS, are a group of over 5,000 human made compounds. Used since the 1940s, PFAS compounds can be in a wide range of consumer and industrial products and processes. PFAS released to the air, soils, ground- or surface water can enter into nearby drinking water sources.

Per the Town of Poolesville: Wells #2 and #3 remain offline. We are sampling all wells with the assistance of Senior Scientist Kathy Mihm, EPA and MDE. We have also identified a Granular Activated Carbon Filtration System that can be sized and used on the 2 wells. We are in the process of obtaining permission from MDE to pilot test the treatment system and identify the parameters needed for data collection. The process is rather slow as this is new to MDE so we are at the mercy of their timetable.
