Bethesda

Bethesda native Josh Pitsenberger powered Yale to a season-opening win on Saturday, rushing for 127 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 28–10 victory over Holy Cross. Pitsenberger scored once in the first quarter, added another in the third, and sealed the game with a final touchdown early in the fourth. His effort marked the first time in more than a decade (2014) that Yale opened a season with both a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver.

MCPD

On Friday night, Montgomery County Police responded to Blake High School in Silver Spring after the Springbrook–Blake football game, dispersing a crowd following reports of a fight. Police emphasized that no arrests were made and no shots were fired despite social media rumors. In a letter obtained first by Moderately Moco, the principals of Blake, Springbrook, and Paint Branch high schools confirmed that multiple student fights occurred, one involving all three schools, and noted that an MCPD officer used non-lethal pepper-ball rounds to help clear the scene, with disciplinary actions expected against those involved. Education

Montgomery Blair High School, one of Montgomery County’s most storied institutions, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with a yearlong series of events. The celebration kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26, in the Blair auditorium, ahead of the school’s homecoming game. VIPs and dignitaries from county, state, and national education and community organizations are expected to attend the kickoff, which is being spearheaded by the Blair Alumni Association.

Beyond MoCo

Church’s Texas Chicken (formerly Church’s Chicken) will make its return to Maryland at 7722 Harford Rd. in Parkville, MD. The upcoming location, which has been under construction for quite a while now, is replacing the former family-owned Greek restaurant Pita Pan. A representative from the company confirmed an “early 2026” opening timeframe for the company restaurant.

The Maryland Transit Administration will offer free systemwide rides on Monday, September 22, in celebration of World Car-Free Day, encouraging residents to use public transit instead of driving.

Per the news release: “The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is celebrating World Car-Free Day with free rides systemwide on Monday, September 22. The agency is encouraging the public to choose to travel by bus or train instead of driving. This year the public can make the most out of Car Free Day by taking transit to work or school in the morning and then taking transit to Ravens Monday Night Football home game against the Detroit Lions.
