Kensington

Construction is progressing at the upcoming Kensington Crossing shopping center, located at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road). A couple of years ago, a decision was made to rename the center to “Crossroads in Kensington,” and all five tenants have now signed on.

Maryland

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration’s termination of NIH biomedical research grants was illegal and discriminatory, siding with a coalition of 16 attorneys general, including Maryland’s, and allowing the reinstatement of funding for ongoing medical research projects.

MoCo Government

Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart introduced Bill 21-25 to expand eligibility for child care property tax credits and increase the maximum credit from $3,000 to $10,000, aiming to support existing providers and attract new ones amid a statewide decline in child care capacity.

Four men, including Walter Barnes, 46, of Potomac, Maryland, who was the owner and president of PM Consulting Group LLC doing business as Vistant (Vistant), have pleaded guilty for their roles in a decade-long bribery scheme involving at least 14 prime contracts worth over $550 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Kensington

Back in June 2023, we let you know that Marathon Deli signed on to open a new location at the upcoming Crossroads at Kensington shopping center on the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Plyers Mill Rd. The restaurant has received its permit to begin interior construction and could be ready to open later this year.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced that all 55 attorneys general have preliminarily agreed to a proposed settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family over their role in the opioid crisis, which could provide Maryland with over $90 million depending on local participation.
