A new era for events in downtown Bethesda officially begins today with the grand opening of The Cordell, a modern and versatile event space located at 4865 Cordell Ave. Previously home to beloved establishments like Grapeseed and Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant, The Cordell aims to fill a distinct need for a centrally located, design-forward venue in the heart of the community.

The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) has charged 25-year-old Tyler Wang’Ombe-Gichuru of Silver Spring with sexually assaulting two children under the age of 10 during a private swim lesson at a community center in Upper Marlboro. The suspect, who was hired by the victims’ family and is not employed by the center, remains in custody without bond as the investigation continues.
X-energy, a clean energy company specializing in nuclear reactor and fuel design technology, is consolidating its Rockville offices into a new 125,000-square-foot headquarters at Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg and plans to retain 260 jobs while creating over 525 new positions over the next six years. The Montgomery County Council voted to approve the Montgomery Planning’s 2025 Update to the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways on July 29, 2025. The update was required due to County Council’s approval of two bills in 2022 (Bill 24-22 and 34-22) that revised the street types identified in Chapter 49 of the County Code, also known as the “Road Code,” to conform to the county’s Complete Streets Design Guide.

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1.3 million in grants to three local organizations: Elite Soccer Youth Development Academy, Identity, Inc., and Tree of Hope Association, Inc., to support peer-led, culturally responsive programs addressing youth mental health and substance use, particularly among Black and Latino youth. Funded by settlement agreements with JUUL and Altria, the initiatives focus on prevention, education, and direct support in communities most affected by vaping and substance misuse.
