Songwriters in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. are invited to compete for $10,000 and a chance to perform on one of the region’s premier stages. Applications are now open for the 10th Anniversary Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards, founded by Cathy Bernard to honor her uncle, Broadway legend Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York). The competition culminates in a live concert featuring the finalists at the Music Center at Strathmore right here in Montgomery County on April 24, 2026.

MCPS

2:24pm Update: MCPD, RCPD, Park Police responded to Rockville High School and determined that it was a swatting call. There is no validity to the report.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared the following information at 1:55pm on Wednesday afternoon. “@MCPS has placed Rockville High School on lockdown following the report of a person with a firearm near the school. RCPD and MCPD are investigating the validity of the report.


Maryland

Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order aimed at accelerating housing production across Maryland by improving the use of state-owned land, reducing permitting timelines, and setting housing production targets to address the state’s 96,000-unit shortage.

Crime

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Missing Person and Cold Case Section have arrested a Silver Spring man in connection with a 2022 homicide at the Summit Hills apartment complex in Silver Spring, MD. A mugshot was not provided by police.

Clarksburg

Three-year-old Gracelyn, a Montgomery County native from Clarksburg and proud “third-generation MoCo girl,” has advanced to the quarterfinals of the national “Toddler of the Year” competition. The contest, which celebrates children’s personalities and stories, also raises money for Toys for Tots, a nonprofit that delivers holiday gifts to children in need.

The Rosner family invites the community back to Little Bennett Golf Course on Friday, September 19, 2025, for the 4th annual Justin’s Hole-in-One Golf Tournament, a heartfelt event benefiting the music therapy program at INOVA Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Oncology unit. Hosted in memory of their son, Justin Alexander Rosner, the tournament raises essential funds for a cause that means the world to the family, and to young children undergoing cancer treatment.
