Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is introducing a new, full-day initiative for the 2025–2026 school year called Student Transition Day on Monday, August 25th. Clarksburg

Planning Board to hold a daytime in-person and online hearing at M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters and an evening in-person-only hearing at the Upcounty Regional Services Center

The Montgomery County Planning Board will hold two public hearings on Thursday, September 25, 2025, for the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan, which focuses on an area of Clarksburg east of I-270 and west of Frederick Road (MD 355). The sector plan envisions a more complete, connected, and sustainable community over the next 20-plus years that balances economic growth with the preservation of natural and historic resources.


MoCo Government

Montgomery County is informing residents that several federal clean energy tax credits, including those for electric vehicles (EVs), will end earlier than expected under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” signed on July 4. However, EV buyers can still qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits on new vehicles and up to $4,000 on used ones if they take delivery by September 30, 2025, with additional incentives for charging equipment available through June 30, 2026. Bethesda Row is set to welcome a new major retailer as Sephora has secured a permit for a significant $1 million fitout. The new store will occupy the 6,718 SF space at 7271 Woodmont Avenue, which was most recently home to Chef José Andrés’ Spanish Diner.

MoCo Government

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich led a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday celebrating the opening of the Residences at Forest Glen, a fully affordable housing development that replaces an aging property with 189 modern rental units near the Forest Glen Metro station. Elrich emphasized the County’s $30.8 million investment as part of a broader strategy to preserve affordability and prevent displacement, joined by Councilmembers Natali Fani-González and Andrew Friedson, state housing officials, and nonprofit developer Montgomery Housing Partnership.

Norbeck

A new Dunkin’ location is set to open at 4011 Norbeck Road in Rockville, taking over a space with a long history in the community. The coffee and donut chain will be moving into the space that was previously home to Sassy Cleaners for three decades, joining the shopping center that’s home to Angelo’s Deli and EATHAI (near Big Greek Cafe).

Crime

For nearly three decades, a series of brutal sexual assaults and one murder haunted Montgomery County and the Washington DC metropolitan area. The perpetrator, known to law enforcement and the public as the “Potomac River Rapist,” was active from 1991 to 1998, leaving a trail of fear and unsolved cases. The mystery was finally brought to an end in 2019, thanks to advances in DNA technology and a collaborative cold case investigation, leading to the arrest of Giles Daniel Warrick. Warrick later died while awaiting trial.
