Bethesda

Landon School, located at 6101 Wilson Ln. in Bethesda, recently shared that Jim Neill has decided to step down as Head of School following the 2025-2026 academic year. The Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee announced that Dr. Andrew “Andy” Martire will join Landon School as our next Head of School beginning July 1, 2026. Martire shared, “”I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to lead Landon School. It is a school that has rich and meaningful traditions, and at the same time a commitment to excellence in educating boys.”

Beyond MoCo

The Flavor Hive, co-founded by social media sensation Shihan Chowdhury (known as “Chilipeppercooks“) and Amgd Gende, has captured the hearts and palates of diners across the DMV area, leading to the soft opening of its first brick and mortar restaurant at 4260 John Marr Dr. in Annandale, VA on Thursday, July 24th. Chowdhury is a local success story, having graduated from Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD.

Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg started planning for its newest park last year, a 2.99 acre parcel located at the corner of Decoverly Drive and Steinbeck Avenue in Crown. The park will occupy a portion of the original 175-acre property that was annexed into the City in 2006. While the parcel is a generous size, after accounting for required easements and stream valley buffers, the usable park space will be about 1.5 acres.

Maryland

Governor Wes Moore announced that Maryland will appeal the Trump administration’s denial of federal disaster assistance for Western Maryland following severe flooding in May, which caused over $15.8 million in damages. Moore emphasized that the impacted communities met FEMA’s criteria and noted that similar requests were approved under the Trump administration when damage thresholds were exceeded.

MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and joint committees will meet on July 24 to review proposed legislation on property tax credits for child care providers, a demolition excise tax to fund affordable housing, labor peace agreements for hotel projects, and tax abatements for public housing authorities, as well as to receive a briefing on the County’s reserve policy.
