Montgomery Parks is inviting families to enjoy a day of nature, creativity, and fun at Children’s Day at Brookside Gardens on Sunday, September 21, 2025, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free, family-friendly event is sponsored by Friends of Brookside Gardens and will offer hands–on gardening activities for children and a chance to explore the newly designed Children’s Garden.
A potentially dangerous situation on Colesville Rd in Silver Spring ended without injuries Monday after a dump truck lost its brakes while traveling downhill toward Sligo Creek Parkway, according to Montgomery County Police Department District 3 Commander Jason Cokinos.
Starting on or around September 29, Montgomery Parks will begin construction of the Little Falls Parkway project, a Vision Zero safety initiative to enhance bicyclist and pedestrian safety by reducing the total number of vehicular travel lanes and implementing traffic calming measures. Construction is expected to be completed in early December, depending upon weather conditions.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested 18-year-old Amilio Xavier Hernandez of Hyattsville on September 10 for an armed carjacking at the Exxon gas station in the 10200 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring in June, charging him with armed carjacking and related offenses. The Washington Commanders have signed veteran running back Chase Edmonds to their practice squad following the devastating injury to Austin Ekeler, who suffered a torn Achilles in last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. The injury, confirmed by MRI, will sideline Ekeler for the remainder of the 2025 season and raises questions about whether the 30-year-old back will be able to return to the field at all. The signing of Edmonds was first reported by Nicki Jhabvala.

The Harbor Bank of Maryland will celebrate a major milestone this month with the grand opening of its first Montgomery County branch in downtown Silver Spring. The event is set for Tuesday, September 23, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at 1010 Wayne Avenue. The bank opened for business earlier this summer.
Two Maryland pizzerias represented the state on the national stage at Dave Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza Fest, which took place on September 13. Frank’s Pizza and Pasta and TinyBrickOven, both in Baltimore and featured previously in Portnoy’s One Bite reviews, were selected to be part of the highly publicized festival that brought together dozens of the country’s most buzzworthy pizza shops.
