On June 11, 2025, at 11:15 p.m. the Rockville City Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Police Department and the Montgomery County Division of Fire Rescue Services responded to the 600 block of Blandford St. for a shooting.
The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force participated in a national initiative, “Operation Safe Online Summer,” resulting in 595 investigations, 41 arrests, and the rescue of 17 child victims. The task force urges the public, especially parents and seniors, to remain vigilant about online safety and continues to provide education, outreach, and investigative support to combat internet-based crimes and child exploitation. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies, while serving a Writ of Restitution (eviction), found an unconscious individual in a residence with a gas stove emitting gas. After securing the residence, waking the individual, and de-escalating their agitation, deputies ensured the person was safely transported to an emergency facility for necessary mental health treatment.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, 18-year-old Nicholas Blanco of Bethesda, a student at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, was sentenced to four years in prison, with all but 11 months suspended, and three years of probation upon release. (more…)

Jason West has been appointed as Rockville’s new police chief, City Manager Jeff Mihelich announced on June 4, following a national search and community input process. A 25-year law enforcement veteran, West has served as acting chief since October and previously held leadership roles within the Rockville City Police Department and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
