Sixty Vines, the Texas-based restaurant known for its wine-on-tap program and vineyard-inspired cuisine, has had a busy first week at its new Downtown Crown location in Gaithersburg. The restaurant officially opened on Monday, October 13, marking its first location in Maryland, and has seen heavy crowds every night since.

Eight new restaurants have been added to the Michelin Guide Washington DC selection this fall, signaling continued growth and diversity in the region’s dining scene ahead of the full awards reveal in November. The Michelin Guide periodically announces new “recommended” restaurants before naming its starred and Bib Gourmand recipients, and this latest update highlights a mix of cuisines and concepts that reflect the city’s evolving food culture.

Four Maryland restaurants have earned a place on The Washington Post’s latest “40 Best Restaurants in and around D.C.” guide, the final installment curated by longtime critic Tom Sietsema, who announced he will be moving on after 25 years at the paper. While not retiring, Sietsema’s departure marks the end of an era in local food writing, and his last guide offers a fitting snapshot of the region’s evolving dining scene, one that extends well beyond the District’s borders.

Washington DC’s celebrated Indian restaurant Rasika has been named one of the most essential and influential restaurants in America by Eater. The publication released its “All-Time Eater 38” list this week, honoring what it calls “the most essential and influential restaurants in America of the past 20 years.” Rasika, which opened in 2005 in Penn Quarter, was praised for redefining Indian dining in the United States through its balance of tradition, innovation, and accessibility.

Darband Kabob is now open at 765 Rockville Pike, Suite E, in Rockville’s Ritchie Center. The new Persian restaurant takes over a space that has previously been home to Taste of Kabab, CM Chicken, and Jumbo Jumbo Cafe. After years of anticipation, the Olney Ale House will officially reopen its doors on Tuesday, October 28th. The beloved restaurant, located at 2000 Olney Sandy Spring Road (at the corner of Route 108 and Doctor Bird Road), has been closed since a 2019 kitchen fire forced it to shut down.
