Restaurants

Update: The owner of Gyroland says no final decision has been made yet on the restaurant’s future. We were previously told by an employee that it would close by the end of the year after hearing from several readers that they were told the same. We’ll keep following this story. Original report below:

Gyroland, the popular Greek fast-casual restaurant located at 1701 Rockville Pike in Rockville’s Shops at Congressional Village shopping center, plans to close by this winter, according to a restaurant representative.


MoCo Government

Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart and councilmembers will hold a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. to announce a proposed $7.75 million Public Service Support Resolution to aid residents and nonprofits affected by the federal government shutdown, with introduction on Nov. 4 and a public hearing and vote on Nov. 18. Community leaders, including the heads of Manna Food Center and MoCo Pride Center, will discuss local needs and services. Gaithersburg

Updated to reflect Mattress Warehouse will take over the space rather than Mattress Firm.

Another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for the former Buca Di Beppo space in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands. Just days after it was confirmed that Tatte Bakery & Café would be opening in half of the building, we’ve learned that Mattress Warehouse will occupy the other half.


MoCo Government

Montgomery County will participate in the national “Operation Green Light” initiative leading up to Veterans Day to honor veterans and raise awareness of local and national resources available to those who have served. From Nov. 4–11, the County will light public buildings in green, host community events and ceremonies, and unveil a Ride On bus tribute while encouraging residents and businesses to display green lights in recognition of veterans. Geno’s Steaks, the Philadelphia restaurant known for its cheesesteaks, plans to open its first Maryland location at Power Plant Live! in downtown Baltimore in early 2026, according to WMAR-2 News. The new spot will mark the brand’s first expansion into the state. (more…)

The Game of the Week in Montgomery County lived up to its billing, at least for a while. Under the Friday night lights in Gaithersburg, the undefeated Quince Orchard Cougars once again asserted their dominance over archrival Northwest, pulling away for a 35-16 victory to move to 8-0 on the season.
