Beyond MoCo

If you are a fan of brisket sandwiches and famously clean restrooms, the growing number of “coming soon” Buc-ee’s signs across Virginia are both exciting and a little frustrating. While the Commonwealth officially joined the Buc-ee’s family in June 2025 with the opening of the Rockingham County location, two more massive Virginia sites are in the works, each with very different timelines and challenges. Once completed, these will be the Buc-ee’s locations closest to the Washington DC region.

Celebrate an evening of Kuchipudi with Traditions, a solo performance by Madhuvanthi Sundararajan featuring a live orchestra. Presented as the culmination of the Maryland State Arts Council Folklife Apprenticeship, this performance marks the year-long artistic journey between master tradition bearer Kasi Aysola and apprentice Madhuvanthi Sundararajan. This inspiring evening welcomes audiences of all backgrounds. August 14, 7 p.m. | Silver Spring Black Box Theater.

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a death involving an individual who suffered a fatal medical crisis after being released from police custody in Montgomery County. Details remain limited at this time.

Gaithersburg

A couple of years after undergoing a major renovation, the Rock Grove shopping center in Gaithersburg is now fully leased on the retail side, marking a successful turnaround for the longtime retail and office property at one of Montgomery County’s busiest intersections.
