On Friday, June 13, 2025, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Montgomery County and will conduct focused enforcement on impaired driving laws.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will implement phase one of its Ride On Reimagined plan on June 29, introducing new and adjusted bus routes and schedules, coordinated with Metrobus changes, to improve service reliability and coverage. The changes also include the introduction of a permanent zero-fare policy across all Ride On services to enhance access and eliminate fare collection costs.
On Thursday, Governor Wes Moore, alongside Maryland utility companies and nonprofit partners, announced the launch of a $19 million Customer Relief Fund—funded by Exelon—to provide one-time energy bill assistance for limited- and middle-income residents across BGE, Pepco, and Delmarva Power service areas in response to rising energy costs. The Maryland Comptroller’s Office announced that the state collected over $17.5 million in adult-use cannabis sales tax revenue from January to March 2025, with the Central Region generating the highest share. A portion of the revenue is allocated to community reinvestment, public health, business assistance, and counties, with the remainder—over $5.3 million—directed to the state’s General Fund.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Montgomery County and the surrounding area from Friday evening through late tonight. 1 to 5 inches of rain are possible, with flash flooding likely in low-lying and urban areas. (more…)
The Montgomery County Schools Automotive Trades Foundation recently hosted a DriveSmart safety program at Edison High School in Silver Spring, where over 100 Montgomery County Public Schools automotive students used virtual reality and driving simulators to experience the dangers of distracted and impaired driving.
