On Friday, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Racquel Britt Davis, 51, was sentenced by Judge Robert E. Cahill, Jr. for felony theft after submitting 18 fraudulent claims for short-term disability and accident supplemental insurance while employed as a correctional officer, and she has been ordered to pay $50,251.66 in restitution.

The Korean contract development and manufacturing leader expanded into the U.S. market through its acquisition of the former Human Genome Sciences facility in Rockville. The acquisition will retain more than 500 jobs and marks Samsung Biologics’ first U.S.-based manufacturing site, further cementing Montgomery County’s position as a premier destination for life sciences companies of all sizes. “During our international trade mission last year, we met with the Samsung Biologics team in Seoul to discuss the economic momentum in Maryland. Today’s ribbon cutting is the realization of that meeting and our state’s momentum,” said Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “South Korea’s largest biotech company is opening its first U.S. manufacturing facility here in Maryland. In the state of Maryland, we are delivering for our people and not playing for second.”

Last October, biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, headquartered in Gaithersburg since 2013, announced that it will build another state-of-the art facility, also in Gaithersburg. This new facility, which follows the opening of the company’s $300 million cell therapy manufacturing facility opened in Rockville last spring, will create 100 new jobs and continue to expand the company’s R&D footprint in the County. Gaithersburg City Council Member Jim McNulty, elected in November 2021, announced his bid for a second term during the 23rd Annual Gaithersburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade, emphasizing his work on economic development, public safety, and fiscal responsibility, including his role in the Lakeforest Mall Redevelopment discussions and radon testing legislation.

Tramell Tillman, a native of Maryland, has emerged as one of the stars of Severance, an acclaimed Apple TV series directed by Ben Stiller. The show revolves around a team of office workers who have undergone a surgical procedure to separate their memories of work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, the characters embark on a quest to uncover the truth about their jobs. Tillman, who plays the role of Seth Milchick on the series, grew up in nearby Prince George’s County, specifically in Largo, where he developed his early passions.
