The National Weather Service (NWS) expanded its Winter Weather Advisory to include northwest Montgomery County as the region braces for the first widespread winter event of the season. The advisory is in effect from 3am to 1pm Tuesday, with a wintry mix expected that could cause hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute, but not much at all is expected for the immediate DC Metro area. The Amazing Art Studio, a longtime local favorite for pottery painting and hands-on art experiences, is expanding with a second location coming to the newly developed White Oak Town Center. The studio’s ownership has confirmed that the new site will be an additional studio rather than a relocation. The existing Downtown Crown location at 115 Crown Park Drive in Gaithersburg will remain open.

Entertainment

Light Up the Lakefront is back at Rio in Gaithersburg this Saturday, December 6, bringing one of the area’s most popular holiday traditions to the waterfront. HOT 99.5’s Intern John, and The MoCoShow’s own “Mr. MoCo,” Alex Tsironis, will once again take the stage to host the event from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The free celebration promises an evening packed with lights, music, entertainment, and a fireworks finale over the lake (video of last year’s event below).

MoCo Police

The Montgomery County Police Department released a video Monday morning featuring Chief Marc Yamada, who walked residents through how to properly identify an MCPD officer. The message comes as the department rolls out updated patches and markings designed to eliminate confusion between MCPD and other law enforcement agencies operating in the county.

Gaithersburg

A new Dunkin’/Baskin Robbins is coming to 898 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, filling the former Starbucks space in Muddy Branch Square (photo is a rendering, signage is not yet up). The Starbucks, which closed earlier in September, was one of five Montgomery County stores shut down as part of a nationwide $1 billion restructuring plan.
