Montgomery Parks has announced the opening of three new playgrounds this spring at parks in Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Olney. The newly renovated playgrounds are located at Indian Spring Terrace Local Park, Olney Mill Neighborhood Park, and Valleywood Neighborhood Park. On Tuesday, June 17, the Montgomery County Council will consider a wide range of new legislation and zoning measures, including expanding property tax credits for child care providers, requiring labor peace agreements for certain hotel projects, creating a seasonal exemption to the gas leaf blower ban, supporting native plant protections, authorizing water cremation, and refining the duties of the County’s early care coordination entity.
Per the news release: “The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, June 17 at 9 a.m. and the meeting will begin with two proclamation presentations. The first, presented by Councilmember Evan Glass, will recognize the Weed Warriors. The second, presented by Council Vice President Will Jawando and Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, will recognize Juneteenth.

Montgomery County passed legislation in 2024 to address environmental, noise, and health concerns related to gas-powered leaf blowers and vacuums. Sales of gas-powered equipment have been banned since July 1, 2024, and the ban on their use begins in just a few weeks, effective July 1, 2025. (more…)
