The City of Takoma Park will implement an innovative stop sign camera enforcement program beginning in early 2026. The four-year pilot program was authorized through the Maryland General Assembly, SB0600, (https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2025RS/bills/sb/sb0600E.pdf) and approved by the Takoma Park City Council.

While coyotes have long been present in the region, the frequency of new reports suggests an uptick in activity as colder weather has arrived and food sources shift.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded late Monday morning to a high-rise fire at the Highland House apartments, located at 5480 Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights. MCFRS initially reported heavy smoke on the 15th floor, confirming an active fire inside an apartment as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will adjust schedules for 36 Ride On bus routes beginning Sunday, January 11, 2026, including timetable changes on 31 routes and bus bay changes on six routes, to improve efficiency and on-time performance.
