The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Community Risk Reduction Team will host a Public Safety Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, October 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Montgomery County Public Safety Headquarters in Gaithersburg. The family-friendly event will feature decorated vehicles, candy, entertainment, and safety information in celebration of Fire Prevention Month.
The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) is inviting residents to complete its annual anonymous Community Trust Survey, open October 1–15, to provide feedback on police-community relations and help inform the 2026 Police Statistical Data Report.

Barry Dufek has been appointed as the Rockville City Police Department’s new deputy police chief and officially joined the department on September 29, with a ceremonial swearing-in by the Mayor and Council scheduled in the coming week. Governor Wes Moore today announced the new Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools Program to recognize exemplary schools.
