Thales Defense & Security, Inc.’s (TDSI) expansion is the latest example.
For more than six decades, TDSI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thales U.S.A, has supported critical national security missions, delivering advanced communications, intelligence, surveillance, and defense technologies to military and government customers around the world.
Last week, the company celebrated a significant expansion of its manufacturing operations in Clarksburg, Maryland.
Over the past year, TDSI also doubled its manufacturing floor footprint through a $4 million investment, expanding production capacity to support the company’s continued growth.
Today, TDSI employs approximately 675 people in Montgomery County, including roughly 250 manufacturing employees.
As demand for its technologies continues to grow, the company continues to expand and has added more than 225 positions locally over the past three years.

Best Buy at Bowie Town Center in Prince George’s County closed on September 21st 2023 with plans to reopen as a Best Buy Outlet. The Best Buy Outlet store is now open, offering a slightly different experience than provided by the location for the last couple of decades. This is the first of the new Best Buy Outlet stores in the state of Maryland (a previous location in Lutherville closed).
Galito’s Flame-Grilled Chicken opened in the spot that was formerly home to Nirvana Reflexology Spa at 15918 Shady Grove Road in the Shady Grove Center (shopping center that is home to The Melting Pot) back in the spring of 2022. Less than two years later, the restaurant has closed.

Chick Fil A on Tech Rd. in the Calverton/Fairland/White Oak area (technically Silver Spring) closed for renovations last summer for what was initially supposed to be 8-10 weeks. After unexpected delays, the restaurant plans to reopen on Thursday, March 14th.
