Jonathan Banks, who grew up in Montgomery County, is back in the global spotlight as he stars in Netflix’s newest hit miniseries The Beast in Me. The show is a psychological thriller that has quickly climbed to the top of the streaming platform’s rankings since its 2025 debut.
Banks graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring in 1966. He was born in Washington DC and spent his early childhood in Chillum Heights in Prince George’s County before his family moved to Montgomery County. He gained attention early in his career with roles in Airplane!, 48 Hours, and Beverly Hills Cop in the early 1980s.

Montgomery County middle and high school students now have extra time to submit entries for the 3rd Annual “Speak Up, Save a Life” student video contest, which has been extended through January 4, 2026. The initiative, hosted by the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, invites students to create original public service announcement (PSA) videos aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of illegal drug use, fentanyl, and opioid misuse among teens.

Montgomery County transportation, police, and alcohol officials are urging residents to plan safe, sober travel ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, warning that the combination of heavier traffic, early darkness, and increased alcohol use leads to a rise in impaired-driving crashes.
