Italian Kitchen, the family-owned restaurant that has served the Silver Spring community for the last ten years, has permanently closed its doors. While no official announcement has been made, its status has been updated to “permanently closed” on Google and other online platforms.
Deep End, a darkly comedic and socially charged indie series by D.C. playwright John Becker, is now streaming nationwide on Fawesome TV. The show has also been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County for its artistic excellence and community impact.
Montgomery County will celebrate its 17th annual African Heritage Month Proclamation Celebration on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 6:00pm at the Silver Spring Civic Center. Join Kaiser Permanente for Healthy at the Harbor, a free community health and wellness event taking place Saturday, June 6, from 11 am to 4 pm at National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Bring your family and friends for free full day of fun, fitness, and preventive care along the waterfront.

Customers are eagerly awaiting Maryland’s first Church’s Texas Chicken (formerly Church’s Chicken), which still has plans to open at 7722 Harford Rd. in Parkville, MD. The new location is replacing the former family-owned Greek restaurant, Pita Pan, marking the first Church’s Texas Chicken in Maryland (the company had Maryland locations under its previous ‘Church’s Chicken’ branding, but is now under new ownership).
In May we let you know of a Schematic Development Plan (SDP) by Peterson Cos. to develop parts of Rio Lakefront with up to 500 multi-family residential units apartment units and 43,000 SF of retail uses in four buildings located throughout the Washingtonian Center. The new establishment will be located at 7643 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, taking over the space previously occupied by No. 1 China in the Takoma Langley Crossroads shopping center.
