Dave’s Hot Chicken is preparing to make its long-awaited debut on Rockville Pike, with the restaurant now expected to open in “about two weeks,” according to a representative from the chain’s White Oak location. The Rockville store is currently scheduled to open a couple days before Christmas (exact date not provided), marking the brand’s second location in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded late Monday morning to a high-rise fire at the Highland House apartments, located at 5480 Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights. MCFRS initially reported heavy smoke on the 15th floor, confirming an active fire inside an apartment as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

A section of NB MD-355 is currently shut down in Rockville following a crash near the intersection of 355 and Gude Drive, close to Watkins Pond Boulevard. The collision appears to involve a dump truck that overturned onto its side and another vehicle with significant front-end damage.

Metro riders will have a sweeter commute this season as WMATA debuts its newest fleet of holiday-wrapped Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess vehicles. The festive designs, which will begin appearing in the coming days, feature a bright red backdrop transformed into a candy-filled winter wonderland. The theme, “making your ride sweeter,” extends inside the holiday-wrapped train, where the interior has also been decorated to match the cheerful, seasonal look.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded Sunday to a fire at a two-story home built in 1897 along the 8900 block of Beallsville Road near Jerusalem Road at Muldoon Farm in Poolesville. The Five Guys restaurant at 3333 Olney Sandy Spring Road has officially closed its doors, ending years of service as a staple stop for local families, students, and commuters. The restaurant permanently closed at the end of business on Sunday, December 7, as we reported last week.
A snowstorm expected to brush past the region early Monday morning will largely miss the DC area, with only the slightest chance some communities see a few flakes. Forecasters do not anticipate any meaningful travel impacts locally.
